For this project, the homeowner wanted to install a Tesla Wall Connector but had an older 100-amp electrical panel that was not capable of safely supporting an EV charger. To ensure safe charging and provide room for future electrical needs, we recommended a complete service upgrade.

Project Overview

After evaluating the existing electrical system, we upgraded the home’s main electrical service from 100 amps to 200 amps. A new Siemens Solar-Ready 200A panel with 24 spaces and 42 circuits was installed, providing the capacity needed for EV charging, future electrical expansion, and potential solar integration.

Upgraded to 200A Service

Upgraded the home's electrical service from 100 amps to 200 amps to safely support EV charging and future electrical demands.

Tesla Wall Connector Installation

Installed a dedicated Tesla Wall Connector with a 60-amp breaker, allowing charging at the maximum supported output of 48 amps.

Solar-Ready Electrical Panel

Installed a Siemens Solar-Ready 200A panel featuring 24 spaces and 42 circuits for future expansion.

Permits & Inspections Managed

Handled all utility coordination, permits, inspections, and approvals from start to finish.

  • THE PROBLEM

The Existing 100A Panel Could Not Support EV Charging

The homeowner's existing electrical service was not designed to accommodate the continuous electrical demand of a Tesla Wall Connector. Adding an EV charger without upgrading the service could have resulted in safety concerns and inspection issues.

Limited Electrical Capacity

The existing 100A service provided insufficient capacity for the additional load required by an EV charger.

The older panel offered limited space for adding new circuits and future electrical upgrades.

Complete Service Upgrade & EV Charger Installation

Our team performed a full electrical service upgrade and installed a dedicated EV charging circuit. We coordinated with the utility company, secured permits, completed the installation, and ensured all inspections were approved.

Siemens 200A Panel

Installed a Siemens Solar-Ready 200A panel with 24 spaces and 42 circuits to support current and future electrical needs.

Dedicated 60A EV Circuit

Installed #6 AWG THHN conductors with a dedicated 60-amp breaker to support the Tesla Wall Connector's maximum 48-amp charging output.

Surge Protection

Installed a surge protection device (SPD) to help protect sensitive electronics and EV charging equipment.

Full Permit Coordination

Managed utility meter requirements, city permits, inspections, and final approvals.
