This project included upgrading the home's electrical service from 100 amps to 200 amps and installing a dedicated electrical setup to safely support a new backyard hot tub. The existing electrical system was evaluated to ensure proper capacity and compliance before installation began.

Project Overview

To support the new hot tub installation, our team upgraded the main electrical service to 200 amps and installed a dedicated outdoor subpanel. A new feeder was routed from the main panel to the spa subpanel, with conduit and wiring installed through the attic to maintain a clean exterior appearance.

A dedicated 50-amp GFCI-protected circuit was installed for the hot tub in full compliance with NEC and California Electrical Code requirements.

  • THE PROBLEM

Existing Electrical System Was Insufficient for Spa Installation

The original 100-amp service was not adequate to safely support the additional load of a hot tub system. A full evaluation confirmed that both capacity and circuit availability needed to be addressed before installation.

Limited Service Capacity

The existing electrical panel did not have sufficient capacity for additional high-load equipment.

No Dedicated Spa Circuit

There was no existing dedicated circuit available for hot tub installation.

Code Compliance

Spa equipment requires dedicated GFCI protection, disconnecting means, and proper bonding.
